In this workshop, we will review the purpose of abstracts in scholarly communication and review disciplinary conventions. Participants will practice creating an abstract as means of developing one’s scholarly voice.

Learning Outcomes/Goals

• Students will synthesize ideas gathered from sources, organize the information in meaningful ways, and draw reasonable conclusions based on the analysis and interpretation of that information.

• Students will demonstrate the ability to develop their own creation processes as well as an understanding that their choices impact the purposes for which the information product will be used and the message it conveys.

• Students will demonstrate the ability to contribute to the increasingly social, scholarly conversation.
